Nematatlín - The Mexican musical group

Nematatlín – the musical group of the Veracruzana University, was founded in 1980. Its objective is to preserve and spread the son jarocho in its most modern version, which has its roots in the old fandango of the wide region of the leeward Veracruz.
Its name comes from a Totonaca word that means "the singers". The group is characterized by its great versatility, thanks to its work as a musical accompaniment of the Folkloric Ballet of the Port of Veracruz, its ability to be divided into various traditional and popular genres, but especially its quality and wide repertoire that covers much of it is, however, the Jarocha section, the most requested to participate in festivals and national and international cultural shows, to be a carrier of the music that has given the state image, which its members interpret with great pride, sensitivity and mastery, making each concert an unforgettable experience for audiences.

Among the countries where Nematatlín Jarocho has been presented are Japan, France, Spain, England, Italy, Cuba, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Honduras, Venezuela, Argentina and the United States. In Mexico it has visited the states of Veracruz, Tabasco, Chiapas, Puebla, State of Mexico, San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, Jalisco, Tamaulipas. It has made 3 recordings, as well as numerous presentations on national and international radio and television.

Its members, in addition to artistic performers, carry out teaching work bringing the university students to experimentation and appreciation. Their academic work has been recognized by the university institution, giving special recognition to two of its members for the integral quality of their teaching performance.
