Kaloob: Philippine Music & Dance Ministry

Committed to the research, documentation, preservation and promotion of Philippine traditional music and dances, KALOOB was founded in 1994 by Dr. Ed Lapiz whose extensive field research and formal academic studies on Philippine culture provide the solid foundation for cultural “correctness” in the company’s repertoire and give essence to its artistic direction.

The group travels to far-flung corners of the country, doing research among indigenous cultural communities to collect fast-vanishing music and dance traditions. WHEN YOU WATCH A KALOOB PERFORMANCE, YOU ARE ASSURED THAT YOU ARE SEEING SOMETHING AUTHENTIC, adapted to the demands of the contemporary stage but nonetheless faithful to the spirit of the original traditions on which they are based.

All indigenous dances of Kaloob feature authentic movements and music, culled from KALOOB's first-hand anthropological research.

After nearly two decades of dedicated artistry, debuting in the national stage as the official resident dance company of the prestigious yearlong 1998 Philippine Centennial Expo, KALOOB continues on its mission as culture bearer of the Filipino Soul in the Philippines and many other parts of the world, being sent by the Philippine government as its official representative in various international cultural festivals and diplomatic events.
