Exhibition "La bande dessinée d’expression française aujourd’hui", Nouvelle Aquitaine Region - France

For about two decades, the comics scene has been extremely dynamic in France and in the French-speaking countries, with more than 5000 books published every year now, and about 400 publishers in activity.

The exhibition "La bande dessinée d’expression française aujourd’hui" (The French-speaking Comics Today), produced by the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image in Angoulême, wishes to testify to this blossoming. It brings a selection of 25 major artists into light (among them three laureates of the Angouleme Festival main award: Blutch, Zep and Lewis Trondheim) and presents the prominent genres in the current production: renewal of the adventure narrative and of children comics, non-fiction (comic-reportage, essays, documentaries), autobiographical tales. A series of film extracts will show that the French movie industry is more and more inspired by comics.

A lively presentation, with multimedia devices, will allow a large audience to discover these treasures. The exhibition is trilingual: French / English and Vietnamese. Curator: Thierry Groensteen
