Exhibitions, Trade Fair and Community Cultural & Artistic Activities

A wide range of exhibitions will take place in many streets and exhibition houses with many diversified art forms.

Artist Le Ba Dang presents his new collections and the work “Dressing for trees” at Le Ba Dang’s Art Center. Painter To Bich Hai is displaying her wooden sculptures from ancient houses, and 50 sets of Vietnam's ethnic costumes in the park adjacent to the Ho Chi Minh Museum. Dao Hoa Nu comes back to Hue Festival 2008 with her extraordinary new collection of art photos “Banyan tree, river wharf and boats”. Hue photographers come together in an exhibition titled “Moments of festival”. A painting exhibition by artists from 6 Northern Central provinces will take place at the Ho Chi Minh Museum. The Postcard exhibition “Ancient Hue-Saigon-Hanoi” and the exhibition “Antiques and royal life in Hue”, organized by Hue Monuments Conservation Center, can be seen at Ta Vu and Truong lang (Roofed Corridors) in the Royal Citadel. The presentation of “Avant–garde calligraphy” is at number 5 Hanoi Street. The photo exhibition “Faith and life” by photographer Tran Viet Van at Buddhist Cultural Center of Lieu Quan, the release of the new stamp set “Hue Refined Court Music” & philatelic exposition, display of “Nguyen Dynasty’s bronze collection” at Thua Thien Hue Museum, a display of research results  about Tay Son Dynasty in Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan-Thua Thien Hue at 04 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, will all be open to the public during the festival. Many exhibitions and installation art of international artists including exhibitions of “The Treasures of An Dinh Palace” by GCREP (Germany), photos by Sebastien Laval (France), “Mat ke” exposition by Gerald Gorridge (France), photo exhibition of Venice city by Daniele Danielli (Italy), “Dragon and Phoenix” by Philip Nizette and Jennifer Jones (Australia) in collaboration with Nguyen Thanh Tung and Ngo Thi Lan Huong (Hue), installation art by Junghee Choi and Kang So Young (Korea), “Meeting” by Remi Polack (France) will be highlights.

Several other events will support the main program, inclusing display of handicraft & art works from the North, the Central and the South of Vietnam at Khanh Ha Boutique, general display by Pham Van Thang at 32 Dao Duy Anh, “Back again” by Nhom Co, “Season of June” by Lam Triet, Dang Mau Tuu, Pham Trinh, displays and various activities themed “The week for Hue’s Diaspora” by the Learning Encouragement Foundation from HCM City, “The colours of Thanh Tien” by Than Van Huy, “Weed picking in the Moon-lit garden” by XQ Co Do.

Some other activities: Festival of Hue poems with poetry readings, community performances and activities, introduction of authors and works at many sites in the city. In addition, on the pedestrian street Nguyen Dinh Chieu, 3/2 park, will be performances of street music, on-the-spot portrait artists, installation art, the book market with selected publications, and the souvenir show-case.

A workshop on “Thuan Hoa Phu Xuan and the national hero Nguyen Hue – Quang Trung” will be held to commemorate the 220th anniversary of Quang Trung Emperor’s Coronation Ceremony. Also, the International Tourism and Trade Fair with hundreds of stalls of domestic and international companies, provinces and cities will be opened at 57 Trieu Au from June 3-9, 2008.

One month prior to Hue Festival, the Fifth International Sculpture Symposium with the participation of 25 sculptors from 15 nations and territories, will be launched on May 3rd, 2008 at the Abalone Resort & Spa as a traditional prelude to Hue Festival.
